___ DESIGNER KNITWEAR
BY
MICHI
Michele M. Walden Mcphee brings chic to the term “knitwear.” Through her MICHI knitwear designs, Walden Mcphee creates sophisticated knits that are easy to wear and easy to pack. With off-the-shoulder designs and hip-hugging evening attire, or loose and breezy, summer afternoon wear, MICHI knitwear makes a unique statement for all women – tall, short, large, small and in between. Walden Mcphee custom designs and fits the piece for her client and does not call the outfit complete until the customer is satisfied.
A Queens, NY native, Walden Mcphee, has been knitting over 20 years. Initially hand knitting all of her designs, Walden Mcphee’s fashion statements have included jumpsuits, bathing suits, dresses, suits, two-piece outfits, sweaters, shrugs and scarves. After completing courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Walden Mcphee has become proficient in using the knitting machine to create the majority of her pieces. These include what is quickly becoming one of her trademarks: knitwear adorned with cowrie shells. Each of her pieces, whether completed by hand or on the knitting machine, is either a one-of-a-kind or limited edition creation. She uses carefully selected yarns that vary from silks to rayon, wool to linen, and run the gamut of colors from orange to muted tans to fuschia and olive green.
“Thus, Michi began from my passion for knitting. It represents an extension of me. A woman who is fashion forward, confident, creative and seeking to be stylish in her dress by wearing custom made, one-of-a kind or limited edition knitwear pieces that can also be classified as wearable art” states Walden Mcphee.
MICHI has shared her creations in numerous fashion shows: “Harlem Phasion Week” hosted by Sophia “Brown Sugar” Davis of BTETV; “My Style” with Fashion Arts Exchange (FAX); “Dangerous Curves… The Tour” with Devoe Signatur Events; “Fashion and Fusion” at the Apollo Theatre with Cathleen Laporte and the Black Fashion Designers Association, Inc.; “Fashion on Broadway” with Dee Simmons; “Tropical Divas” with the Unforgettable Woman of Richmond, Va.; “30 Fashionable Years” for Harlem Week; and the “28th Congressional Black Caucus Fashion Show” sponsored by the Spouses; the DC Fashion Week in Washington, D.C.; “Intrigued”, a midnight fashion show @ the Baton Rouge. Currently she is one of the guest designers for L.A.s Runway Rhythm, participating in shows from Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and the latest with Punch TV in Carson City, CA. Recently Michi participated in “A Night In Paris“, Where Theatre Meets High Fashion Runway, a theatrical presentation by Donna Rayford, CEO of Crown Jewel Studios. In addition to participating in Transformations, Michi showcased in Fashion Arts Xchange New York Fashion Week Fashion Show @ ArtsEcho Galleria and
